Elizabeth Garcia Piano Studio

 ABOUT THE TEACHER

Ms. Elizabeth Garcia began her piano studies in 1986 at the young age of eleven in McAllen, Texas, under the direction of her piano teacher Emma Madrigal. Even though she had just given up on lessons, her grandmother Elizabeth De Anda Rodriguez, gave her "the talk" of the importance of playing the beautiful instrument and that her talent would one day be needed to serve the Lord. After the talk her grandmother gave her, she decided to move forward with piano and shadowed her teacher Emma Madrigal. Every Sunday she would sit at the piano or organ next to her teacher observing her as she watched with amazement as the hymns were being played.

The passion and love for music in her teenage years had her practicing the Wurlitzer piano for 1 to 4 hours at home on a daily basis. At times, her parents would tell her to take a break but she was determined to learn the hymns. In 1989, by the age of 14, she was already playing the organ for the congregation at her church and also the piano during Sunday school, Primary and Relief Society. Now with the responsibility of a church callings at such a young age, this would mean that she had to practice the hymns on a daily basis to achieve perfection.  The 88-key Wurlitzer spinet piano that she would practice on a daily basis was acquired by her father Rodolfo Rodriguez, in the year 1980 in the amount of $200.00. He himself was a pianist and keyboardist and extremely skilled in other instruments like the saxophone, trumpet, accordion, guitar,  just to name a few. Her father took great pride and joy in watching her play and saw how she had progressed in her piano playing that he himself taught her Latin and other genre songs. Some of the songs he taught her to play were Sabor A Mi, Granada, Besame Mucho, Misty, Color My World, just to name a few.

One day her father was contacted by La Plaza Mall personnel in McAllen, Texas, and was asked that he play the piano at Dillard's. He decided to take his daughter along with him to play the piano as well and give her exposure. He was proud of her performance at Dillards! In 1992, her father would later create the "Future Generation Band" and decided that she would be not only the keyboardist but also one of the singers. He loved to hear her sing as she had developed beautiful vocal cords because of choir. In 1993, she became a Senior and went on to join Mariachi at Mission High school, where she was a violin player and one of the singers.

In 1995, she married and had beautiful daughters. In 2003, she started as a part-time piano instructor and quickly grew to have 25 students. During this time a complication in her pregnancy was unforeseen and was left with a heart breaking decision of having to devote to complete rest and made arrangements for her students to continue their studies with another piano instructor. Even though she continued to rest after the delivery of her fourth daughter her passion was always with piano. As the years went by, she continued to play the piano and the organ at church until 2013. After years in the medical field (1995-2020) and not been able to work in that field anymore, in 2020, she decided to dedicate herself to teaching piano once more and offers classes to beginners of all ages. In 2022, she decided to further her studies under the direction of Jon Enrile, from the Phillipines.
